THE RAN TRILOGY
OCTOBER 2025

ABOUT RAN

After decades of war, famine and environmental destruction, the world is on the verge of collapse. The only country that is thriving is Svealand, where people live in harmony and nature has been restored. All that was required was to close the borders, abandon democracy and introduce constant surveillance. The population of Svealand is now divided into white, yellow, orange or red-ringed, and to raise your social status you must be an exemplary citizen and collect points.
Ran is eighteen years old and lives in Stockholm. She has recently been arrested after her father committed an unforgivable crime. The only thing she can focus on is working hard so that the family can become orange again and get their old life back.
But when Ran's brother Loge is suddenly abducted as punishment for her father's actions, Ran's life is shattered. Slowly she begins to realize that the world she lives in is built on lies, and that she is the only one who can expose them. Alone and pursued, Ran embarks on an impossible hunt through Svealand to save her brother and her country's freedom - before time runs out.

THE RAN TRILOGY
The Ran trilogy is a story of survival, resistance, and individual responsibility. The trilogy moves through moral gray areas, where the fight for freedom is constantly balanced against personal loss and difficult choices.
The story is set in a country where an elite rules over an oppressed population. A recurring theme is how the society exploits its inhabitants, especially the youth. There is a central conflict between following the system and breaking free to create change.
The protagonist Ran Tronner is not a traditional hero. She is a complex, emotional and relatable protagonist driven by love for her family, and grows through the story to become a symbol of resistance. While Ran is forced to challenge her worldview , she must also deal with timeless dilemmas such as love, loyalty and betrayal. She is forced to navigate a world where her choices have consequences not only for her, but for the entire population.

ABOUT SVEALAND
Svealand is a future Sweden, governed by Prime Minister Svea Gråberg. It is a highly hierarchical and unequal world, where the population is divided into different classes. The inhabitants are now white, yellow, orange or red-ringed, and to raise your status you need to be a good citizen and collect points. If you are red-ringed, you are at the bottom of society without security
or benefits.
Svealand was created after disasters such as climate change and conflict led to the collapse of the rest of Europe. At the same time, a couple of superpowers have gained increasing influence, and their desire to continue growing has caused Svealand to close its borders and close its borders. In Svealand, nature has recovered and reclaimed the land it once ruled.
Svealand is a mirror of our own world, but amplified and distorted. The inequalities and class differences reflect real socio-economic gaps and the exploitation of people. The country is both a dystopian warning and a tragic reminder of what can happen when power and wealth are concentrated in the hands of a few.

ESTRID KLINT
Estrid Klint is a pseudonym, as the author has chosen to keep her identity secret. Behind the name is a writer who has published over 20 titles across three decades. Her books have sold in six figures in Sweden alone, been adapted for film, and translated into several languages. Estrid Klint is available for interviews under the right circumstances.
The idea for the Ran trilogy was born more than ten years ago, and since then, the world-building, character portraits, and dramaturgy have been refined through several iterations.
At first, Estrid Klint focused on creating an exciting adventure story. But as the work progressed, she realized more and more that she wanted to write a story about hope in a world that doesn’t always offer easy answers. Research was crucial in making the world both frightening and realistic. She read extensively about historical societies that used violence to control their populations and studied contemporary issues such as socioeconomic inequality, propaganda, and how modern technology is used to monitor and control people. Her goal is for Ran to offer readers a chance to reflect on questions about power, violence, and what it means to be a good fellow human being.
